Timing Chain Tensioner for the timing chain drive of the 5.0L V8 (AJ133) and 3.0L supercharged V6 petrol engines. It bears against the timing chain guide to hold the correct tension on the chain that drives the camshafts from the crankshaft.

Acted on by engine oil pressure and a return spring, the tensioner extends to take up slack as the chain wears and stretches, keeping the valve timing accurate and preventing chain rattle or jump. A worn or failed tensioner lets the chain slacken, which can upset timing and lead to serious engine damage.
