Air Temperature Sensor for diesel applications, forming part of the engine management sensing circuit on the air intake side.
The sensor measures the temperature of the air entering the engine and returns that value to the engine control unit, which uses it alongside the pressure and mass-flow signals to establish air density and set fuelling accordingly. Depending on the application it is mounted in the turbocharger intake ducting or in the inlet manifold.
A drifting or out-of-range sensor typically shows as poor cold-start behaviour, smoke under load, or a stored intake air temperature fault code.
