Valve Spring Seat is the seat on the cylinder head that locates the base of the valve spring, providing the surface against which the spring is compressed as the valve opens and closes.

Fitted around the valve guide at the top of the cylinder head, it is used on the petrol engines and is accessed during cylinder head or valve spring service work.
