Brake pad wear sensor for the rear brakes, forming part of the brake pad wear warning circuit.

The sensor is a wire loop carried in a moulded body that locates against the rear brake pad and plugs into the brake wiring harness. As the friction material approaches its minimum thickness the rotating disc contacts the loop and severs it, breaking the circuit and triggering the brake pad wear warning in the instrument cluster.

Because the loop is destroyed when it triggers, the sensor is a single-use component and is renewed together with the rear brake pads.

What does the LR153547 rear brake pad wear sensor do?
The LR153547 rear brake pad wear sensor is a wire loop that plugs into the brake harness and sits against the rear brake pad. As the pad wears to its limit, the disc severs the loop and triggers the brake pad wear warning. It fits the Range Rover L460 (2022+) and Range Rover Sport L461 (2023+).
Is this the front or rear sensor, and can I tell them apart?
This is the rear brake pad wear sensor. The front sensor is a separate part and they're not interchangeable, so match the sensor to the axle you're working on. Order the front sensor separately if you're doing all four corners.
Does the sensor need replacing every time?
The rear wear sensor is single-use. Once the pad wears far enough for the disc to cut the loop, the sensor is destroyed and must be renewed with the rear pads. Reusing it leaves the pad wear warning inoperative.
