Inlet Manifold Pressure Sensor for the diesel engine management air intake system, mounted directly on the inlet manifold.
The sensor reports absolute pressure within the manifold to the engine ECU, which uses the value to calculate engine load and to regulate turbocharger boost against the demanded figure. On applications where the manifold sensor also carries a temperature element, the same unit supplies the charge air temperature signal used to correct the air-mass calculation for intake temperature.
A failing sensor typically presents as boost pressure faults, reduced power and limp-home operation with a stored manifold pressure sensor code.
