EGR Cooler - heat exchanger in the exhaust gas recirculation system of the 2.7L TDV6 diesel engine.

The cooler lowers the temperature of recirculated exhaust gas before it rejoins the intake charge, using engine coolant as the cooling medium. Reducing the gas temperature lowers peak combustion temperature and helps control oxides of nitrogen (NOx) in the exhaust. It sits in the circuit between the EGR valve and the intake manifold.

Frequently asked questions

What does the EGR Cooler (1336562) do?
The EGR Cooler is a heat exchanger in the exhaust gas recirculation system of the 2.7 TDV6 diesel. It lowers the temperature of recirculated exhaust gas using engine coolant before the gas rejoins the intake, cutting peak combustion temperature to help control NOx. It sits between the EGR valve and the intake manifold.
Where is the EGR cooler located?
The EGR cooler is mounted in the exhaust gas recirculation circuit between the EGR valve and the intake manifold on the 2.7 TDV6 engine. It's plumbed into the engine coolant system, so both exhaust gas and coolant pass through it. Access is typically from the top of the engine on Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport.
Why do EGR coolers fail on the 2.7 TDV6?
EGR coolers typically fail through internal cracking or clogging with soot. A cracked core can leak coolant into the exhaust gas, causing coolant loss, white smoke or overheating; heavy soot build-up restricts flow and triggers EGR fault codes. On the 2.7 TDV6 these symptoms usually point to cooler replacement.
How do I confirm this EGR cooler fits my vehicle?
This EGR cooler fits the Discovery 3 (2005-2009) and Range Rover Sport (2005-2009) with the 2.7 V6 diesel, but only up to specific VIN breaks: Discovery 3 to VIN 9A508509 and Range Rover Sport to VIN 9A209066. Check your VIN against these limits before ordering, as later builds use a different cooler.
