Valve Spring Retainer from the cylinder head valve train, the top cap that closes off the valve spring.

It sits on top of the valve spring and is locked to the valve stem by the split collets, holding the spring in compression so the valve is returned firmly onto its seat once the cam lobe releases it. Used on the V8 petrol and supercharged V6 petrol engines.
