Genuine Part
Genuine: Original manufacturer part. This product is the original part designed and produced by the vehicle manufacturer.
Oil Separator Reservoir for the 3.0L V6 diesel, part of the crankcase ventilation circuit within the engine emission control system.

Crankcase blow-by gases pass through the separator, where entrained oil mist is condensed out and collected before draining back to the sump; the cleaned gas is returned to the intake. The crankcase breather pipework connects at the top of the unit.

A blocked or failed separator raises crankcase pressure, which typically shows as oil leaks at the engine seals and increased oil consumption. Check the connecting breather pipework for splits and hardening at the same time.

Frequently asked questions

What does the oil separator reservoir do on a Land Rover?
The oil separator reservoir is part of the crankcase ventilation system, separating oil mist from blow-by gases before they return to the intake. It's fitted only to the 3.0L V6 Diesel on models like the Discovery 4, Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Velar.
Which engine and models does this oil separator fit?
This oil separator fits the 3.0L V6 Diesel only, across the Discovery 4, Discovery 5, Range Rover L405, Range Rover Sport L320, Range Rover Sport L494 and Range Rover Velar. It isn't used on petrol engines.
Where is the oil separator located?
The oil separator typically sits within the crankcase ventilation circuit on the 3.0L V6 Diesel, routing blow-by gases back to the intake. It handles the emission control crankcase ventilation function on the Discovery 4/5 and Range Rover L405.
What are the signs the oil separator needs replacing?
Common signs include excess oil consumption, a whistling vacuum leak, rough idle or a crankcase pressure fault. On the 3.0L V6 Diesel the separator's internal diaphragm can fail with age, letting oil past or upsetting crankcase vacuum.
