Steering Column Rotary Coupler - the rotary coupling, or clock spring, mounted on the upper steering column behind the steering wheel as part of the steering column and airbag circuit.

The coupler carries the electrical circuits that run through the steering wheel - driver airbag, horn and the steering wheel switch packs - across the rotating joint. A coiled flat ribbon conductor winds and unwinds as the wheel is turned, maintaining continuous electrical contact without the wear of a sliding contact.

A damaged or over-wound coupler typically shows as an airbag warning lamp, an inoperative horn or dead steering wheel switches. The road wheels must be set straight ahead and the coupler left in its centred position during removal and refitting.
