Stop light switch for the brake pedal box assembly.

The switch mounts in the pedal box behind the brake pedal and is operated by the pedal arm as the brake is applied. It signals brake application to the stop lamps and to the vehicle control modules, which use the same input to cancel cruise control, release the transmission shift interlock and permit engine cranking.

Because so many functions share that one signal, a failed switch rarely presents as inoperative brake lights alone: a selector lever that will not move out of Park, cruise control that will not disengage, or a no-crank condition all point at the same component. The switch is a plug-in fit in the driver's footwell and is renewed without disturbing the brake hydraulic system.
