Oil Pump for the engine lubrication system of the 2.7L and 3.0L V6 turbocharged diesel engines.
The pump is driven from the crankshaft and draws oil from the sump through the pick-up strainer, delivering it under pressure to the filter and oil cooler and on into the main gallery, from where it feeds the crankshaft and camshaft bearings, the piston cooling jets and the turbocharger.
Low or slow-rising oil pressure, pressure that falls away at idle once hot, and bearing or turbocharger wear traced to oil starvation are the symptoms that point to a worn pump. The sump and pick-up strainer should be cleaned and inspected whenever the pump is replaced, and the oil and filter renewed on refill.
