Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor for diesel exhaust aftertreatment, fitted on the right-hand side of the exhaust in the front pipe and catalyst area on installations equipped with a diesel particulate filter.

The sensor reports exhaust gas temperature to the engine control module, which uses it to control diesel particulate filter regeneration and to protect the catalyst and turbocharger against over-temperature.

An out-of-range or open-circuit sensor commonly inhibits regeneration and logs a fault, leading to filter loading and reduced performance.
