Brake Light Switch - pedal-mounted stop lamp switch, located on the brake pedal box assembly.

The switch mounts on the pedal bracket and is actuated directly by the brake pedal arm. It closes the stop lamp circuit to illuminate the rear stop lamps and the high-mounted stop lamp, and simultaneously signals brake application to the vehicle's control modules - cancelling cruise control and supplying the brake input used by the engine, transmission and stability control strategies.

Because that signal is shared across several modules, a failing switch rarely presents as a lighting fault alone. Typical symptoms include stop lamps that stay on or fail intermittently, cruise control that will not engage, transmission shift lock or gear selection faults, and stored brake-switch fault codes.
