Frequently asked questions

What does the timing chain tensioner arm do?
The timing chain tensioner arm bears against the timing chain and provides the face through which the tensioner applies load. Working with the chain tensioner, it takes up slack and maintains correct chain tension.
Which engines does the tensioner arm fit?
This tensioner arm fits 2.0L Ingenium petrol engines only, including AJ200, AJ20P4 and AJ200P PHEV units. It's not fitted to diesel engines, so confirm your 2.0L is petrol or PHEV.
Which models take this tensioner arm?
It fits the New Defender (2020 on), Discovery 5 (2017 on), Discovery Sport (2015 on), Range Rover L405 (2013-2022), Range Rover Sport L494 (2014-2022), Evoque L538 and L551, and Velar (2017 on) with the 2.0L petrol engine.
What are the signs the tensioner arm is worn?
A worn tensioner arm typically lets the timing chain rattle, especially on start-up, because it can no longer hold the chain under proper tension. Replacing the arm with the tensioner during timing work usually clears the noise on the 2.0L petrol.
