Exhaust Manifold Gasket, left-hand bank - the sealing joint between the cylinder head exhaust ports and the exhaust manifold on the 3.0L DOHC supercharged direct-injection V6 petrol engine (AJ126).

It seals combustion gas at full exhaust temperature and pressure while accommodating the differential thermal expansion between the aluminium cylinder head and the manifold. A failed gasket blows at the joint, giving a ticking or hissing exhaust leak that is loudest on a cold start and quietens as the metal expands, and it can disturb the readings of the upstream oxygen sensors.

The gasket is a single-use item and must be renewed whenever the manifold is disturbed. Check the manifold flange for flatness, replace any stretched or corroded studs and nuts, and tighten the fasteners evenly from the centre outwards to the specified torque.
