Front Crankshaft Oil Seal - radial lip seal in the cylinder block and front cover assembly, sealing the crankshaft nose where it passes through the timing cover.

It runs on the sealing surface of the crankshaft behind the front pulley and torsional vibration damper, retaining engine oil at the front of the block. Replacement is carried out with the accessory drive belt and front pulley removed; the crankshaft sealing face and the cover bore should be inspected for scoring and wear grooves before the new seal is fitted.

Fitted to the Ingenium AJ20 / AJ21 / AJ22 engine family, petrol and diesel.

Frequently asked questions

What does the LR121757 front crankshaft oil seal do?
The LR121757 is the front crankshaft oil seal for the Ingenium AJ20, AJ21, and AJ22 engine family. It seals the timing end of the crankshaft where it exits the block, keeping engine oil in. A hardened or worn seal lets oil weep from the front of the engine.
What are the signs the front crank seal is leaking?
A leaking front crankshaft seal typically shows as oil around the timing cover or crank pulley and drips at the front of the engine. On these Ingenium engines the seal hardens with age and heat. Left unchecked, oil can reach the auxiliary belt and cause further problems.
When is the front crankshaft seal usually replaced?
The front crank seal is typically replaced when it leaks or during front cover, timing, or belt work on the Ingenium engine. Access means removing the pulley and often the belt, so many workshops renew the seal while that area is already apart. Confirm your engine is Ingenium.
