Crankcase Breather Cover for the 3.0L Ingenium AJ20P6 six-cylinder petrol engine, part of the positive crankcase ventilation system.

The moulded cover closes the crankcase ventilation chamber on the camshaft cover, sealing the oil separator circuit that draws blow-by gases out of the crankcase, strips entrained oil from them and returns the vapour to the induction side while the separated oil drains back to the sump. It seats on a gasketed face and is retained by a set of small fasteners.

A cracked cover or a hardened, distorted sealing face lets unmetered air into the crankcase ventilation circuit. Typical symptoms are an unstable idle, oil misting or wet residue around the camshaft cover, audible whistling under load and crankcase pressure fault codes. The sealing gasket should always be renewed whenever the cover is disturbed.
