Frequently asked questions

What is the ETC4014 camshaft pulley for?
The ETC4014 camshaft pulley sits at the front of the cylinder head on the 2.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated and turbo diesel engines. Driven by the timing belt, it transmits rotation to the camshaft to maintain correct valve timing on the Land Rover Defender.
Where does the camshaft pulley sit in the timing system?
The camshaft pulley works within the timing belt assembly at the front of the engine, alongside the crankshaft pulley and tensioner. The timing belt drives it to keep the camshaft turning in time with the crankshaft on the 2.5L 4-cylinder diesel.
Should the camshaft pulley be replaced with the timing belt?
It's worth inspecting the camshaft pulley whenever the timing belt is changed on the 2.5L diesel Defender. A worn, cracked or damaged pulley can throw the belt or upset valve timing, so replace it if there's any wear rather than reusing a suspect part.
