The crankshaft key locates the timing gear and crankshaft pulley on the crankshaft nose, fixing their angular position relative to the shaft. It transmits drive and keeps the timing alignment correct, so the camshaft stays in phase with the crankshaft on these 4-cylinder engines.

This key fits the 2.25L and 2.5L 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines up to the 200 TDi, used on the Land Rover Series II and III, Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic. On Discovery 1 the 200 TDi application runs from VIN LA081991. Check your VIN to confirm.
