Frequently asked questions

What is the Timing Chain Locking Plate (557523) used for?
The Timing Chain Locking Plate locks the camshaft sprocket retaining bolts on the 2.25 and 2.5 4-cylinder petrol engine. Its tabs are bent up against the bolt heads after tightening to stop them loosening under engine vibration, securing the timing drive.
Which engines does this locking plate fit?
This locking plate fits the 2.25 and 2.5 4-cylinder petrol engines. It's used on the Land Rover Defender 1987-2006 and the Series 2, 2A and 3 at the timing chain and tensioner at the front of the engine.
Can the locking plate be reused?
Typically no. The tabs are bent against the bolt heads when fitted, so once the plate is removed it's usually renewed. A fresh plate gives clean, unfatigued tabs that hold the sprocket bolts securely.
