Aftermarket Part
Aftermarket: Quality alternative. This is a quality alternative, designed to fit and function like the original part, often at a more competitive price.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Parabolic Spring and Shock Kit for?
The Parabolic Spring and Shock Kit is a rear leaf-spring suspension package for the long-wheelbase Land Rover Series 2 and 3. It replaces the original multi-leaf springs and dampers at the rear axle. The parabolic springs use fewer, tapered leaves than the standard pack, cutting inter-leaf friction for a smoother ride and more articulation.
What's included in the parabolic rear kit?
The kit includes a pair of 4-leaf parabolic springs, a pair of long-travel shock absorbers matched to the extra travel, U-bolts and nuts, and castor correction wedges. The wedges reset the differential pinion angle where the taller spring changes ride height, keeping the propshaft angle correct on the long-wheelbase Series.
Where does this kit fit on the Series?
This kit fits the rear axle of the long-wheelbase 109 inch Land Rover Series 2, 2A and 3. The springs mount between the chassis hangers and the rear axle, with the shocks on the rear damper mounts. It's designed for the LWB chassis, so it won't suit the 88 inch short-wheelbase models.
Why fit parabolic springs instead of the original multi-leaf pack?
Parabolic springs are usually fitted to improve ride quality and axle articulation on the Series. The tapered leaves flex more freely than a stacked multi-leaf pack, so the axle follows rough ground better and the ride is less harsh. Original springs also sag with age, and worn shocks let the axle move uncontrolled.
Is fitting the parabolic kit a DIY job?
Fitting the parabolic kit is typically a job for an experienced home mechanic or workshop, as it means supporting the axle, removing the U-bolts and swapping the springs and shocks under load. Torque the U-bolt nuts to the workshop manual specification. The castor wedges must go in the right way round to correct the pinion angle.
