Frequently asked questions

What is the ERR4575LR crankshaft oil seal?
The ERR4575LR is the front crankshaft oil seal for the 2.5L 300TDi diesel engine. It fits over the crankshaft nose at the timing cover and seals against the turning shaft to retain oil at the front of the engine. Fitted to Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic 300TDi models.
What happens if the front crankshaft seal isn't replaced?
A worn front crankshaft seal keeps leaking oil onto the front of the engine, and oil reaching the timing belt shortens belt life and can make it slip. Replacing the seal once it weeps keeps oil off the belt and the front cover area.
Should I replace this seal with the timing belt?
Replace this front crankshaft seal whenever the 300TDi timing belt is changed, because the front cover and crankshaft pulley are already removed for belt access. Fitting a fresh seal at the same time avoids disturbing the new belt later. Seat it squarely to prevent leaks.
