Aftermarket Part
Aftermarket: Quality alternative. This is a quality alternative, designed to fit and function like the original part, often at a more competitive price.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ERR5278 main bearing cap bolt for?
The ERR5278 main bearing cap bolt clamps a main bearing cap to the cylinder block on the 2.5L Td5 five-cylinder diesel. It retains the crankshaft main bearing shells and sets the main bearing bore, working as a high-load fastener in the bottom end of the block.
Can the main bearing cap bolt be reused?
The ERR5278 is tightened to a torque-plus-angle specification, so it's typically treated as single-use and renewed whenever the main bearing caps are disturbed on the Td5. Reusing an angle-tightened bolt risks incorrect clamp load, so fit new bolts and torque to the workshop manual specification.
Which vehicles does the ERR5278 fit?
The ERR5278 fits the 2.5L Td5 five-cylinder engine in the Defender (1987-2006) and Discovery 2 (1998-2004). It's specific to the Td5 cylinder block, so confirm your engine is the Td5 rather than the 300TDi before ordering.
How many main bearing cap bolts does the Td5 need?
The Td5 bottom end uses several main bearing caps, each secured by these bolts, so a full main bearing job typically needs a set rather than one bolt. The ERR5278 is sold individually, so order the quantity your rebuild requires.
