What does the RTC3813 distributor cap do?
The RTC3813 distributor cap fits over the distributor on the 2.6-litre 6-cylinder petrol engine in the Land Rover Series III. It takes high-voltage pulses from the ignition coil and routes them, via the rotor arm, to each spark plug lead in firing order. This is the later Lucas-type cap.
What are the signs of a failing distributor cap?
A failing distributor cap usually causes misfires, hard starting or rough running, often worse in damp weather. Cracks, carbon tracking or corroded terminals inside the cap let the high-voltage spark leak. On a 2.6 6-cylinder Series III a cracked cap is a common ignition fault.
Will this cap fit other Land Rover engines?
The RTC3813 is specific to the 2.6-litre 6-cylinder petrol ignition on the Series III. It won't fit the 4-cylinder distributors or other engine types. Check you have the 6-cylinder 2.6 engine and the later Lucas cap design before ordering.
