Frequently asked questions

What is the RTC4510 glass fuse, and where is it used on a Land Rover?
The RTC4510 is a 35A glass cartridge fuse that protects a wiring circuit by breaking if 35A is exceeded. On Land Rover Series 2, 2A, and 3, it's used in the main electrical harness. On Defender up to 2006, it protects the main harness and, from VIN MA962814, also the air conditioning wiring circuit.
Can a blown glass fuse be repaired, or must it be replaced?
Glass fuses are single-use and must be replaced when blown. Never repair or bridge a fuse. A blown fuse indicates an overload or short circuit in the protected circuit, so it's worth diagnosing the cause before fitting the replacement to avoid blowing the new fuse immediately.
Should I keep a spare 35A glass fuse on the vehicle?
Yes. These fuses protect critical circuits and can fail unexpectedly, leaving you stranded. Keeping a spare in the glovebox or fuse box is standard practice on Series and Defender Land Rovers. The RTC4510 is cross-referenced as BE 0277 and is a commonly stocked part.
