Rear Brake Disc - vented, coated. Part of the rear brake discs and calipers assembly.
The disc mounts to the rear hub flange and provides the friction surface clamped by the rear caliper pads, converting wheel rotation into heat. Internal vanes between the two friction faces draw cooling air radially through the casting, shedding that heat to limit brake fade and pad glazing under repeated or heavy braking.
The hub boss, outer edges and vane passages carry a protective coating that holds off surface corrosion on the areas the pads never sweep clean. The coating is worn from the friction band itself during the first few brake applications.
Replace the disc once the friction faces reach the wear limit, or earlier if scored, heat-cracked or outside run-out tolerance. Discs are replaced as an axle pair and bedded in with fresh pads.
