View full detailsParts for the full-size Land Rover Discovery 5 (L462), produced from 2017 to present on the JLR D7u aluminium platform. Pre-facelift V6 and post-facelift inline-six engines covered, Genuine, OEM, and aftermarket in stock for same-day EU dispatch.
The Discovery 5 is the current full-size Discovery, launched in 2017 under chassis code L462. It is the first Discovery built on a unibody aluminium architecture, the JLR D7u platform, the same body structure that underpins the Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494. This is a separate vehicle from the smaller, transverse-engined Discovery Sport (L550), which is a compact crossover on the JLR PTA platform. The two share no platform or major mechanical components and their parts are not interchangeable.
Every Discovery 5 carries permanent four-wheel drive with a Torsen centre differential, a two-speed transfer case with low range, and the 8-speed ZF 8HP automatic transmission. Terrain Response 2 is fitted across the range. Assembly began at Solihull in 2017 and transferred to Nitra, Slovakia during 2018.
The launch engine range used the 3.0-litre AJD-V6 turbodiesel (TDV6 and SDV6 states of tune), the 2.0-litre Ingenium AJ200D four-cylinder turbodiesel (Sd4 and Td4), the 2.0-litre Ingenium AJ200 turbocharged petrol (Si4), and the 3.0-litre AJ126 supercharged V6 petrol.
The November 2020 facelift retired both V6 engines and the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesels. The current range is the 3.0-litre Ingenium AJ20-D6 inline-six diesel MHEV and the 3.0-litre Ingenium AJ300 inline-six petrol MHEV. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system arrived with the facelift.
Engine, fuel, and emissions parts are engine-specific and do not cross the 2020 boundary. Drivetrain, brake, body, and many suspension components carry across both production phases. Where a part is restricted to one phase, the listing states the year range.
Use the engine variant, year, and category filters above the product grid to narrow this collection to parts that match your specific Discovery 5.
The Discovery 5 spans two production phases with different engine families on either side of the 2020 facelift, and assembly transferred from Solihull to Nitra during the 2017 to 2018 period, which affects build records on the earliest vehicles. Ordering by model year alone is not enough when engine, fuel, and emissions parts are involved.
Use the 17-digit VIN to confirm fitment. It is stamped on the windscreen base plate, on the driver-side door jamb sticker, and recorded on the V5C or local registration document. The 10th character of the VIN identifies the model year and tells you immediately whether the vehicle is pre-facelift (M, N, L, M for 2017 through 2020 model years) or post-facelift (2021 onward, model year code M and later).
For diesel engine parts in particular, confirming the engine code via VIN before ordering is essential: the pre-facelift 3.0-litre AJD-V6 and the post-facelift 3.0-litre AJ20-D6 share displacement and the "3.0 diesel" name but use entirely different blocks, fuel systems, and emissions hardware.
The VIN decoding tables, position-character mapping, and engine code reference for the L462 are published in the Land Rover Discovery Workshop Manual for the applicable model year. For the diesel pre-facelift to post-facelift engine boundary, the AJD-V6 and AJ20-D6 sections of the workshop manual identify which components are specific to each engine family.
Discovery 5 stock covers air suspension components, brake hardware, cooling and heating for the V6 and inline-six engines, full engine and ancillary range across the AJD-V6, AJ20-D6, AJ200, AJ126, and AJ300, driveline parts including the rear axle and propshafts, and electrical and sensor service items. Click any category to filter results to L462 fitment.
Air springs, compressor parts, control arms, anti-roll bar links, and steering components for the L462 air suspension system.
Suspension and steering partsFront and rear discs, pads, calipers, hoses, and hydraulic service components for the Discovery 5.
Brake system partsService parts for the AJD-V6 and AJ20-D6 diesels, AJ200 and AJ300 petrol Ingenium engines, and the AJ126 supercharged V6.
Engine partsThermostats, water pumps, radiators, intercoolers, and coolant hoses for pre-facelift V6 and post-facelift inline-six engines.
Cooling and heating partsPropshafts, rear differential service parts, and driveshaft components for the Torsen permanent four-wheel drive system.
Drive mechanism partsSensors, switches, lighting, and electrical service parts for the L462 across both pre and post-facelift specifications.
Electrical partsThe Discovery 5 is still in active production, so Genuine and OEM supply for this generation is the deepest of any Discovery in the catalogue. The right tier depends on the system you are working on, not the price.
Genuine is appropriate for the air suspension, the active rear differential, the 8HP transmission, the MHEV 48V system, and emissions hardware on the AJD-V6 and AJ20-D6 diesels. These are systems where small specification differences cause warning codes or premature failure, and where the JLR part has the correct part number and calibration history.
OEM covers most of the practical service work. ZF supplies the 8HP transmission and the ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid is the correct service spec. Bosch supplies most diesel injection hardware including the high-pressure pumps on the V6 diesel. Brembo and TRW supply braking components. Mahle supplies cooling and engine ancillary parts. The OEM tier costs significantly less than Genuine for the same component.
Aftermarket is the right choice for wear items, brake discs and pads, filters, bushings, lighting, and body fasteners. Each listing names the supplier where the OEM identity is verified, so you can confirm the source before purchase.
EU Stock and DispatchL462 parts are stocked at the Netherlands warehouse and dispatched the same working day on orders placed before 15:00 CET. Inside the EU there are no customs declarations or import VAT charges, and transit to Germany, Belgium, and France typically runs 1 to 2 working days. Scandinavia, Spain, Italy, and Poland are usually 2 to 4 days. UK shipments follow the standard post-Brexit customs route with VAT and duties applied on delivery. Workshop and fleet accounts can request a trade login for invoiced terms.
Technical GuidesThe guide below addresses a service question that comes up regularly on pre-facelift V6 Discovery 5 vehicles.
The 3.0-litre AJD-V6 turbodiesel fitted to the pre-facelift Discovery 5 from 2017 to 2020 runs on a timing chain, not a belt. This guide covers the distinction, common failure indicators, and the components involved in a correct timing chain service on this engine.
3.0 TDV6 timing chain guideElectronic parking brake faults on the Discovery range, including the L462, frequently get misdiagnosed as actuator failure when the root cause is worn brake shoes or cable resistance. This guide explains the correct diagnostic sequence and the parts needed for a permanent fix.
EPB failure diagnosis guideUseful background for owners moving from a Discovery 4 to a Discovery 5, or comparing the cost of running each. Covers DPF blockage root causes on the TDV6 and the upstream sensors and EGR components that often need replacement before the filter itself.
Discovery 4 DPF guideNo. The Discovery 5 (L462) is a full-size, body-on-aluminium-monocoque SUV on the JLR D7u platform, sharing structural architecture with the Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494. It has permanent four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case with low range, longitudinally-mounted engines, and seats up to seven. The Discovery Sport (L550) is a compact crossover on a different platform (JLR D8, later PTA), with transverse engines, Haldex or GKN Active Driveline AWD, and no low-range transfer case. The two vehicles share no platform and almost no mechanical components, and parts are not interchangeable between them.
The Discovery 5 uses the JLR D7u platform, the aluminium-intensive monocoque architecture also used by the contemporary Range Rover L405 (2013 to 2022) and Range Rover Sport L494 (2013 to 2022). Body-in-white commonalities mean some structural panels, suspension geometry hardpoints, and chassis-mounted hardware are shared, although exterior body panels, interior trim, and most mechanical components are model-specific. The D7u platform is separate from the D7a used on the Range Rover Velar (L560) and from the MLA-Flex platform used by the newer Range Rover L460 launched in 2022.
Yes. The Discovery 5 is rated to tow up to 3,500 kg braked across both pre-facelift and post-facelift specifications, supported by the standard two-speed transfer case with low range, the Torsen centre differential, and an air suspension system that levels for hitch load. The towing-related parts most commonly serviced are the rear air springs and compressor, the trailer module wiring harness, the rear axle differential service kit, and the brake hardware on heavily-loaded vehicles. Trailer electrics and the towing module are coded to the VIN, so replacements need to match the vehicle specification.
The V6 diesel and supercharged V6 petrol were replaced by the Ingenium AJ20-D6 and AJ300 inline-six engines as part of the November 2020 facelift to meet tightening EU emissions and CO2 targets and to standardise the JLR engine range. The inline-six architecture supports the 48-volt mild-hybrid system more efficiently than the V6 layout. The result is that 2021 model year onward Discovery 5 vehicles use a different engine block, fuel system, turbocharger arrangement, and emissions hardware from earlier cars. Pre-2021 V6 parts and post-2020 inline-six parts are not interchangeable, even between vehicles registered close together across the model year transition.
The simplest check is the model year, identified by the 10th character of the VIN. Pre-facelift vehicles are 2017 to 2020 model years. Post-facelift vehicles are 2021 model year onward, which means they were built from late 2020. Visually, post-facelift cars carry a revised front grille and bumper design, redesigned LED headlights and tail lights, and the Pivi Pro infotainment system with the 11.4-inch curved touchscreen. The pre-facelift uses the older InControl Touch Pro system with a flat screen. When in doubt, the VIN is the authoritative answer.
Yes. Air suspension components are one of the highest-volume Discovery 5 categories, covering front and rear air springs, the suspension compressor, valve blocks, height sensors, and the associated brackets and hoses. Stock is held in the Netherlands and dispatched the same working day on orders placed before 15:00 CET. Genuine and OEM tiers are both available for most air suspension parts. For workshops handling multiple L462 vehicles, the trade account route gives faster checkout and invoiced terms.
