Oil Sump for the 2.5L 200 TDi diesel engine. Bolted to the underside of the cylinder block, it forms the lower enclosure of the crankcase and holds the engine oil reservoir.

The oil pump draws lubricant from the sump through the pickup strainer and returns it after circulation, while the drain plug at the lowest point allows the oil to be emptied at service. It seals to the machined face of the cylinder block along its flange.

Frequently asked questions

What does the oil sump do?
The oil sump bolts to the underside of the cylinder block and forms the lower enclosure of the crankcase, holding the engine oil. The oil pump draws lubricant from the sump through the pickup strainer, and the drain plug at the lowest point lets you empty the oil at service.
Which models and engine does this sump fit?
This oil sump fits the 2.5L 200 TDi diesel in the Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic. Discovery 1 is covered from chassis FA393361 to WA799999, and Range Rover Classic from chassis JA610294.
Why would an oil sump need replacing?
An oil sump usually needs replacing when it's corroded, dented from ground impact, or the drain plug threads have stripped. Any of these can cause an oil leak, and a badly dented sump can foul the oil pump pickup.
What does the 200 TDi fitment cover?
This sump suits the 2.5L 200 TDi engine specifically. On the Defender it's the 5-speed manual, less catalyst build, so confirm your engine is the 200 TDi rather than a later 300 TDi before ordering.
