What is the DA114412 smart load device?
The DA114412 is a 12V load resistor, also called a smart load device, wired in to correct the fast flashing or bulb-out warnings that appear when LED bulbs replace filament bulbs. It mimics the electrical load of a standard bulb so the vehicle reads the circuit as normal.
Why do I need a load resistor with LED bulbs?
A load resistor is needed because LED bulbs draw far less current than filament bulbs, so the vehicle thinks a bulb has failed and flashes fast or logs a warning. Wiring the 12V resistor across the LED restores normal indicator speed and clears the bulb-out alert.
Where is the load device fitted?
The load device wires in parallel across the LED bulb's feed and earth, usually near the affected lamp such as an indicator. It's a 12V unit, and it can get warm in use, so mount it away from wiring and trim.
Can I fit the load resistor myself?
Fitting the load resistor is a DIY electrical job, connecting it across the LED bulb's live and earth wires, often with the supplied connectors. Basic tools are enough, but mount the resistor to a metal surface away from plastics because it dissipates heat when working.
