Tensioner - Auxiliary Drive is the automatic tensioner of the auxiliary (ancillary) drive belt system, applying and holding the correct running tension on the polyvee accessory belt.

A spring-loaded pivoting arm with an integral idler pulley takes up belt stretch and thermal movement in service, keeping the belt seated on the crankshaft and accessory pulleys under changing engine load. A worn tensioner bearing or a weakened spring typically shows as belt squeal or chirp, visible flutter in the belt run and uneven belt wear, and the tensioner is normally renewed together with the belt.
