Genuine Part
Genuine: Original manufacturer part. This product is the original part designed and produced by the vehicle manufacturer.
Oil Temperature Switch mounted on the automatic gearbox oil cooler, within the transmission cooling circuit.

The switch senses transmission fluid temperature at the cooler and closes when the fluid passes its set threshold, signalling an overtemperature condition in the automatic transmission oil circuit. It works alongside the cooler and its connecting hoses as part of the gearbox thermal protection arrangement.

A failed switch shows either as a permanent overtemperature indication with the transmission cold, or as no indication at all when the fluid is genuinely hot. Before condemning the switch, confirm the cooler itself is not restricted and the fluid level is correct.

Frequently asked questions

What does the oil temperature switch on the transmission cooler do?
The oil temperature switch senses automatic transmission fluid temperature at the gearbox oil cooler and closes when the fluid passes its set threshold, signalling an overtemperature condition. On the Discovery 2 it protects the automatic transmission by flagging when the cooling circuit isn't holding fluid temperature down.
Where is this transmission temperature switch fitted?
This transmission temperature switch mounts on the automatic gearbox oil cooler, within the transmission cooling circuit on the Discovery 2 (1998-2004). It sits alongside the cooler and its connecting hoses as part of the gearbox thermal protection arrangement.
What are the signs this temperature switch has failed?
A failed temperature switch typically shows as a permanent overtemperature indication with the transmission cold, or no indication at all when the fluid is genuinely hot. Before replacing it, confirm the cooler isn't restricted and the fluid level is correct.
