Land Rover oil coolers for engines and gearboxes, with Td5 oil cooler kits, oil cooler pipes, hoses, seals and gaskets, for models including the Series, Defender, Discovery, Freelander and Range Rover. Titles name engines such as the 200Tdi, 300Tdi, Td5, Td4, TDV6 and V8, and many pipe and hose titles also give the position, such as feed or return, upper or lower. Radiators listed with an oil cooler are in Radiators, Intercoolers & Tanks, and most coolant hoses to the oil cooler are in Coolant & Radiator Hoses. Check the vehicle model, engine and gearbox first, then the model year or VIN where a part changed during a generation.

View full detailsThis collection covers engine and transmission oil coolers for Land Rover and Range Rover models, with the pipes, hoses, unions, seals and gaskets that connect and seal them. It is one of the subcategories of Land Rover Cooling & Heating Parts.
Parts here are listed for the Land Rover Series, Land Rover Defender, Land Rover Discovery, Land Rover Freelander and Range Rover families, including the Classic Defender, Discovery 2, Discovery 4, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. For older models covered by the catalogues, use the Land Rover parts catalogues to help identify the correct part number before ordering.
Land Rover workshop manuals describe more than one oil cooler layout. The Defender 300Tdi manual describes the oil cooler matrix as an integral part of the radiator, with a feed pipe and a return pipe. The Defender Td5 manual describes an oil cooler housing bolted to the left-hand side of the engine block, with a matrix inside that acts as a heat exchanger and is cooled by engine coolant. The Range Rover P38 manual for the BMW diesel places the engine oil cooler in front of the radiator, below the intercooler, linked to the oil filter housing by feed and return pipes.
Radiators listed with an oil cooler are in Land Rover Radiators, Intercoolers & Tanks, and most coolant hoses to and from the oil cooler are in Land Rover Coolant & Radiator Hoses. Most engine coolant thermostats are in Land Rover Water Pumps, Thermostats & Fans.
ENGINE OIL COOLERSEngine oil coolers are listed as complete assemblies, oil cooler and filter assemblies, a cooler element and kits. Titles name the Td5, the Td4 diesel, the 4.2 supercharged V8 and a 4-cylinder Military Lightweight cooler listed for the Series, but many coolers are titled only Oil Cooler or Oil Cooler Assembly, so check the part number.
For the Td5, DA1127BM is listed with the title Oil Cooler Kit, alongside RK1127, a repair kit titled Cooler Only. The Defender Td5 workshop manual says the oil cooler is sealed to the cylinder block by a gasket that must be replaced every time the oil cooler housing is removed, so check each listing for what it includes.
An oil cooler thermostat and an oil cooler housing end cap are also listed. Where a title says No Gasket, order the gasket separately.
TRANSMISSION OIL COOLERSMany transmission oil coolers are titled Transmission Oil Cooler or Oil Cooler, Transmission, and some name the gearbox or engine, such as the 300Tdi automatic, the ZF 8-speed and a V8 cooler with an M20 x 1.5 thread. Some are titled only Oil Cooler, so check the part number.
The Range Rover P38 manual for the BMW diesel describes a separate oil cooler behind the front bumper on automatic models, linked to the transmission by feed and return pipes, while on manual models the gearbox oil cooler is an integral part of the radiator. The Discovery 3 (LR3) workshop manual for the 4.4 litre engine says its transmission fluid cooler is part of the radiator assembly and cannot be serviced separately.
PIPES AND HOSESOil cooler pipes, tubes and hoses are listed for the engine and transmission circuits. Many titles give the position, such as feed or return, upper or lower, to cooler or to engine, cooler to pump, and filter to cooler. Titles name the 200Tdi, the 300Tdi with ZF automatic, the 2.5 4-cylinder, the V8 EFI, the V8 with ZF automatic, the 2.4 VM diesel and the 3.2 I6. Many pipes and hoses for the transmission circuit say Transmission or Auto in the title.
Unions are listed as well, including a double male pipe adaptor and a coupling assembly.
SEALS AND GASKETSGaskets, O-rings and seals are listed by engine where the title names one, including a 2.7 TDV6 gasket, 3.0 TDV6 and 3.0 V6 diesel O-rings, and a 2.2 Td4 seal. Some seal titles give a size, such as 18 mm and 9.5 mm, and an oil cooler seal kit is listed.
Some oil cooler O-rings, seals and gaskets, including several Td5 items, are listed under Land Rover Engine Parts, and some transmission oil cooler seals are under Land Rover Gearbox & Transferbox Parts.
BUYING GUIDEBudget Parts lists Genuine, OEM and aftermarket options in this collection. The available quality tier varies by part, so check the individual product listing when comparing options.
Assembly, element or kit. Read the title to see whether a listing is a complete oil cooler assembly, an oil cooler and filter assembly, a cooler element or a kit.
Ordering together. Gaskets, O-rings and seals are listed as separate parts in this collection, so check the listing for what is supplied, and order a gasket where the title says No Gasket.
BEFORE YOU ORDERIts towing section covers checking the hoses between an automatic gearbox and an external oil cooler.
Land Rover summer service checklistAn engine oil cooler cools the engine oil, and a transmission oil cooler cools the gearbox oil or transmission fluid. In the Range Rover P38 workshop manual for the BMW diesel, the engine oil cooler sits in front of the radiator and is fed from the oil filter housing, while automatic models have a separate gearbox oil cooler behind the front bumper, linked to the transmission by feed and return pipes. Confirm the part number against your vehicle before ordering.
Td5 listings include DA1127BM, titled Oil Cooler Kit, and RK1127, a repair kit titled Cooler Only. The Defender Td5 workshop manual describes the oil cooler as a housing bolted to the left-hand side of the engine block by seven bolts, with a matrix inside, and says the gasket must be replaced every time the housing is removed. Check each listing for what it includes.
On some models it is. The Defender 300Tdi workshop manual describes the oil cooler matrix as an integral part of the radiator. The Range Rover P38 manual for the BMW diesel describes the manual gearbox oil cooler as an integral part of the radiator, and the Discovery 3 (LR3) manual for the 4.4 litre engine says its transmission fluid cooler is part of the radiator assembly and cannot be serviced separately. Radiators listed with an oil cooler are in the radiators collection, not here.
Start with the engine or gearbox, then read the position in the title, such as feed or return, upper or lower, or to cooler and to engine. A title can carry a VIN break: NRC8508, an oil cooler to engine pipe, is titled "To (V)FA389798", so check your VIN against it before ordering. Quote the full VIN with any fitment enquiry.
Check the individual listing. Gaskets, O-rings and seals are listed as separate parts, and where a title says No Gasket the gasket is ordered separately. Some oil cooler seals and gaskets, including several Td5 items, are listed under Engine rather than here.
