A suspension bush is the rubber or polyurethane sleeve that lets a suspension arm, anti-roll bar or chassis mounting point pivot and flex without metal touching metal. Worn bushes show up as clonks over bumps, vague or wandering steering, uneven tyre wear and play found at inspection or APK. Compatibility Confirming the Right Bush for Your Vehicle
Match the part to your specific vehicle before ordering. Work from the build date and VIN rather than the model year alone, because suspension specification can change mid-production. The VIN plate is on the chassis or under the bonnet depending on model; a VIN or chassis-number search returns the exact suspension build. Confirm three things: the axle, front or rear; the position, such as radius arm, panhard rod or anti-roll bar; and, for anti-roll bar bushes, the bar diameter, since the bush is bored to match the bar and a mismatched inside diameter will not clamp correctly. Some bushes and anti-roll bar parts are handed, position-specific or market and specification-specific, so confirm by VIN before ordering.
Fitting Common Fitting Notes
- Fit pressed-in bushes with the correct press tool or a bush press kit, not a hammer, so the sleeve seats squarely and the rubber is not damaged.
- Torque bushed pivot bolts at normal ride height, not on full droop, so the bush is not pre-loaded and does not tear early.
- Replace anti-roll bar bushes and drop links in pairs, left and right, so roll stiffness stays even across the axle.
- Check the bar diameter and bush bore before ordering. A bush that is too loose will rattle; one that is too tight will bind and wear the bar coating.
- Book a wheel alignment if the worn bush was part of an arm that sets camber, caster or toe. Bushes that only locate a panhard rod or anti-roll bar do not usually need a follow-up alignment.
Important Anti-roll bar and suspension bushes are safety-critical parts that affect handling and stability. Torque all fixings to the correct figure for your model, use the correct press tool for pressed-in bushes, and inspect the ball joint or arm the bush sits in while it is off the vehicle.
