Oil Separator is part of the crankcase ventilation system on the 3.0L V6 diesel engine, separating oil mist from crankcase blow-by gases.

The separator draws blow-by vapour from the crankcase, condensing and returning entrained oil to the sump while passing the cleaned gases back to the intake. This keeps oil out of the induction air and helps maintain controlled crankcase pressure.

Frequently asked questions

What does the oil separator do on the 3.0L V6 diesel?
The oil separator is part of the crankcase ventilation system on the Land Rover 3.0L V6 diesel engine. It separates oil mist from crankcase blow-by gases, returns the oil to the sump, and passes cleaned gas back to the intake. This keeps oil out of the induction air and helps control crankcase pressure.
Which Land Rovers use this oil separator?
This oil separator fits the 3.0L V6 diesel engine in the Discovery 4, Discovery 5, Range Rover L405, Range Rover Sport L494 and Range Rover Velar. Confirm your engine is the 3.0L V6 diesel, as the part is specific to that crankcase ventilation setup.
What are the signs the oil separator needs replacing?
Common signs on the 3.0L V6 diesel include oil leaks around the breather, higher oil consumption, a whistling or hissing from the crankcase system, and rough running. A failed separator typically lets oil through to the intake, so it's usually replaced once these symptoms show.
