What is the Oil Pump Lock Tab and what does it do?
The oil pump lock tab is a tab washer fitted under the oil pump retaining fastener. Once the fastener is torqued, the tab is bent against a flat to stop it vibrating loose. It's used on Land Rover Series, Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic four-cylinder engines.
Can the oil pump lock tab be reused?
Don't reuse the oil pump lock tab. Once it's been bent over to lock the fastener, the tab is work-hardened and won't hold securely a second time. Fit a fresh lock tab whenever the oil pump fastener is disturbed to keep it from backing off.
Which engines and models does this lock tab fit?
This oil pump lock tab fits Land Rover Series four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, Defender (1986-2006) including the 200 TDi, Discovery 1 200 TDi up to VIN LA081991, and Range Rover Classic 200 TDi from 1992. It doesn't fit the VM diesel or 2.0 MPi engines.
