The tab washer locks the drop arm retaining nut on the Adwest steering box output shaft. Its tabs fold against the flats of the nut so it can't work loose under steering loads. It fits the Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic with the Adwest steering box.

Can the steering box tab washer be reused?

No, replace the tab washer every time the drop arm is removed. Once the locking tabs have been folded and unfolded they lose their grip, so a used washer can let the drop arm nut loosen, which is a serious steering safety risk. Always fit a new one.
