Frequently asked questions

What does the FTC861 needle roller bearing do?
The FTC861 needle roller bearing seats in the front swivel pin housing and carries the stub axle. It supports radial load while allowing the hub to rotate and the steering swivel to articulate, keeping the hub and brake disc aligned to the front axle on Land Rover models.
Where is the FTC861 bearing located?
The FTC861 sits in the swivel pin housing bore on the front axle, part of the steering swivel assembly. It supports the stub axle, which is why swivel housing wear often shows here on Defender and Range Rover Classic axles.
Which models does the FTC861 fit?
The FTC861 fits the Defender 1987-2006 from VIN LA930456 and 2007-2016 from VIN 7A000001, Discovery 1 from VIN JA032849, and Range Rover Classic 1986-1994 with or without 4-wheel ABS. Check your VIN, as it applies from these build points.
What are the signs the swivel needle bearing needs replacing?
A worn swivel needle roller bearing usually shows as play at the front hub, knocking on full lock, or notchy steering. As it carries the stub axle, wear here affects hub alignment and is best addressed when overhauling the swivel housing.
