The swivel pin housing oil seal is the outer seal fitted at the joint between the stub axle and the swivel pin housing on the front axle. It keeps lubricant inside the swivel assembly and blocks dirt and water from getting in, protecting lubrication at the stub axle.
What's the difference between this seal and the inner swivel seal?
This is the outer swivel pin housing seal, sitting at the stub axle to housing joint. The companion inner seal is FTC5268, which seats deeper in the assembly. Both are usually replaced together during a swivel overhaul, so check which one your job needs or fit both.
What are the signs this swivel seal needs replacing?
A failing swivel pin housing seal usually shows as oil or grease weeping from the swivel area, contaminated lubricant, or a swivel running dry. Damaged seals let water and grit in, which speeds up wear on the swivel ball and stub axle. Replace it whenever the swivel is disturbed.
