Frequently asked questions

What does the JFF000140 heater cable do?
The JFF000140 is the Bowden control cable that sets the heater mode on the Defender (1987-2006). It links the dashboard control lever to the air-distribution flap in the heater box, so the airflow setting you select is held in place.
What are the signs the Defender heater cable needs replacing?
When the Defender heater lever feels slack or stiff, or won't move the airflow through its full range, the cable has usually stretched, kinked or seized. A failed cable leaves the heater flap stuck and the mode control unresponsive.
Is fitting the heater cable a DIY job?
Fitting the heater cable is usually a DIY job, though access behind the Defender dashboard is tight. Basic hand tools and some patience to re-clip and adjust the cable ends at the lever and heater box are typically all that's needed.
