What is the LRT-12-158 long timing pin used for?

The long timing pin sets engine timing on the Td5 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo diesel. It locks the crankshaft at its timing reference position, holding the engine accurately so components are refitted in their correct relationship to crankshaft position.

What's the difference between the long TD5 timing pin and the short one?

This is the long pin variant for the Td5 engine. A separate short pin, LRT-12-058, also exists; the two differ in length, so check which one your Td5 timing procedure specifies before ordering.

Will this long timing pin fit a TDi engine?

This long timing pin is for the Td5 2.5-litre five-cylinder diesel only, fitted to the Defender and Discovery 2 (1998-2004). It won't suit the earlier 200TDi or 300TDi engines, which use different timing tools.
