Frequently asked questions

What does the LUF100420 crankshaft oil seal do?
The LUF100420 is the rear crankshaft oil seal for the 2.5L Td5 engine. It seals the crankshaft at the rear of the block, preventing oil from escaping onto the flywheel or clutch and maintaining oil pressure in the engine.
Which Td5 vehicles does this seal fit?
This fits the 2.5L Td5 engine in the Land Rover Defender (1998 to 2006) and Discovery 2 (1998 to 2004). It's not interchangeable with 300 TDi or 2.4 TDCi rear seals. Confirm your engine type before ordering.
When should the Td5 rear crankshaft seal be replaced?
Replace the LUF100420 when oil is leaking from the rear of the engine at the bellhousing face, particularly if it's contaminating the clutch. It's also standard practice to fit a new seal whenever the gearbox or clutch is removed to avoid revisiting the job.
