What does the RTC6395 water pump do on a 200Tdi engine?

The RTC6395 water pump circulates coolant around the 2.5L 200Tdi turbo diesel engine. It's belt-driven from the crankshaft and pushes coolant through the block, cylinder head and radiator to keep the engine at operating temperature. Fitted to Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic 200Tdi models from 1990 to 1994.

Where is the water pump fitted and what drives it?

The water pump mounts to the front of the 200Tdi engine and runs off the timing belt. Its impeller spins in the coolant gallery to move coolant through the cooling system. Because it sits behind the front cover, access typically means removing the timing belt to reach it.

What are the signs the 200Tdi water pump needs replacing?

Coolant leaking from the pump's weep hole, a whine or rumble from a worn bearing, or the engine running hot all point to a failing 200Tdi water pump. Left unchanged, a seized pump or shed impeller can cause overheating and engine damage. It's typically replaced whenever the timing belt is changed.
