What does the rear parking sensor do?
The rear parking sensor is an ultrasonic transducer for the Parking Distance Control (PDC) system, push-fitted through the rear bumper cover. It emits an ultrasonic burst and listens for the echo, and the parking aid module converts the timing into an obstacle distance to drive the audible warning. Fits Discovery 3, Freelander 1 and Range Rover Sport.
What's the difference between this straight sensor and the angled YDB500311PMA?
This is the straight-connector version, typically used in the outer rear bumper positions. The 90 degree angled equivalent, YDB500311PMA, fits the inner bumper positions. Check the connector angle on your original sensor before ordering, as the two are otherwise visually similar and easy to confuse.
How do I confirm this fits my vehicle?
This sensor fits the Discovery 3 (2005-2009), Freelander 1 (1996-2006) and Range Rover Sport L320 (2005-2009) with Parking Distance Control. Each model has a VIN break point, so use your VIN to confirm the variant before ordering if your vehicle is near a build-year change.
Is the parking sensor easy to replace at home?
The parking sensor is a push-fit into a retaining collar bonded to the bumper cover, so replacement is typically a DIY job needing no special tools. Note the fitted orientation before removal. Keep the transducer face clear of paint, wax or road film, as a coated face weakens the ultrasonic signal and shortens detection range.
