Frequently asked questions

What is the UKC18LLR layshaft roll pin used for?
The UKC18LLR is a roll (tension) pin that locates and retains the layshaft in the manual gearbox casing. It holds the shaft against rotation and endwise movement. On the Range Rover Classic the same pin also secures the reverse idler shaft.
Should the layshaft roll pin be replaced or reused?
A roll pin like this is typically replaced rather than reused once it's been driven out, since removal can distort the pin and reduce its grip. When you have the gearbox apart to reach the layshaft, it's usual practice to fit a new pin on reassembly.
Which Land Rover gearboxes does this pin fit?
This layshaft pin fits the manual transmission on the Defender (1987-2006), Discovery 1 (1989-1998) with 4-cylinder and V8 petrol, and Range Rover Classic (1986-1994). On the Range Rover Classic it also serves as the reverse idler shaft pin.
