Brand Timken
Differential Pinion Bearing (Inner) - a tapered roller bearing forming part of the differential pinion assembly within the rear axle final drive.

The inner bearing sits at the head of the pinion shaft, nearest the crown wheel, and together with the outer pinion bearing locates and preloads the pinion, carrying the axial and radial loads generated as drive passes through the crown wheel and pinion gear set. It is used in the independent rear suspension (IRS) differential.
Fitment Notes JAGUAR / DAIMLER IRS AXLES — Differential inner pinion bearing (TIMKEN), fits ALL Jaguar independent rear suspension axles. Models: Daimler Limousine 1968-1992, Jaguar XJ Series III Saloon, XJ6/XJ12, XJ (X300) 1995-1997, XJS.

Frequently asked questions

What does the 12252 inner differential pinion bearing do?
The 12252 inner pinion bearing is a tapered roller bearing that sits at the head of the pinion shaft, nearest the crown wheel, in the rear axle final drive. Working with the outer pinion bearing, it locates and preloads the pinion, carrying the loads as drive passes through the crown wheel and pinion gears.
Which vehicles does this inner pinion bearing fit?
This inner pinion bearing fits Jaguar and Daimler independent rear suspension axles, including the Daimler Limousine (1968-1992), Jaguar XJ Series III, XJ6 and XJ12, XJ X300 (1995-1997) and XJS. Check your axle type before ordering.
Is the inner pinion bearing replaced on its own or with the outer bearing?
The inner pinion bearing is typically replaced as a matched pair with the outer pinion bearing, along with a new collapsible spacer and pinion oil seal, because disturbing the pinion means its preload has to be reset. Fitting a new bearing against a worn one usually shortens its life.
What are the signs a pinion bearing needs replacing?
A worn pinion bearing usually shows as a whine or growl from the rear axle that changes with road speed, and sometimes play at the pinion flange. Left unchecked, a failing bearing can destroy pinion preload and damage the crown wheel and pinion gear set.
