What does the Timing Cover Seal do?
The Timing Cover Seal is a rubber seal fitted to the timing gear cover of the AJV8 petrol engine, sealing the cover against the cylinder block to keep engine oil inside the timing case. It stops oil leaks at the timing cover joint.
Which engines does this timing cover seal fit?
This timing cover seal fits both the 4.4 V8 EFI and the 4.2 V8 Supercharged petrol engines in the Discovery 3, Range Rover L322 and Range Rover Sport L320 (2002-2009). Unlike some timing parts, it covers both the EFI and Supercharged AJV8.
When should the timing cover seal be replaced?
The timing cover seal is renewed whenever the timing gear cover is disturbed on the AJV8, or to cure an oil leak at the cover joint. Because reaching it means removing front timing components, it's usually replaced during other front-of-engine work.
