Differential Planet Gear (spider gear) for the Rover-type differential.

Mounted on the differential cross-shaft, the planet gear meshes with the side (sun) gears on the axle shafts. This lets the driven wheels turn at different speeds through a corner while drive is still transmitted to both. It runs against the companion bevel side gear (533777) inside the differential carrier.
Vehicle Model Land Rover Series 2 and 3
Fitment Notes Fitment data limited — derived from web research, verify if uncertain
SERIES II/IIA/III 1958-1985 — Differential planet gear (spider gear), Rover 10-spline diff. Also fits Series 109.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Differential Planet Gear and what does it do?
The Differential Planet Gear, also called a spider gear, mounts on the differential cross-shaft and meshes with the side gears on the axle shafts. It lets the driven wheels turn at different speeds through a corner while still driving both. Fits the Rover-type 10-spline differential.
Which Land Rovers does this planet gear fit?
This planet gear fits the Rover-type 10-spline differential on Land Rover Series 2, 2A and 3 (1958-1985), including Series 109 models. Fitment data is limited, so confirm you have the Rover 10-spline diff before ordering, as Series axles varied across the range.
Should the planet gear be replaced with the side gears?
The planet gear meshes against the differential side (sun) gears, so they wear together. If the spider gear is chipped or worn, inspect the mating side gears at the same time. Renewing meshing gears as a set typically gives a longer-lasting differential repair.
Why does a differential planet gear fail?
A differential planet gear typically fails from shock loading, low oil, or high mileage, showing as chipped or worn teeth and a whine or clunk from the axle. Worn spider gears let diff backlash increase. They're renewed during a differential rebuild.
