Layshaft Shim, 1.55 mm thick, for the 4-speed manual gearbox used in V8 applications.

The shim sets the endfloat of the layshaft (countershaft) within the gearbox casing, fixing its axial position so the gears mesh correctly and bearing clearance is held within tolerance. Selective shims of differing thickness are used to bring the layshaft endfloat within specification when building or rebuilding the gearbox.

Supplied as a single 1.55 mm shim. Confirm the required thickness against the measured endfloat before fitting.

Frequently asked questions

What is this layshaft shim used for?
This layshaft shim sets the endfloat of the layshaft, or countershaft, in the manual gearbox. It fixes the shaft's axial position so the gears mesh correctly and bearing clearance stays within tolerance when the gearbox is built or rebuilt.
Is this a selective-fit shim?
Yes, it's supplied as a single selective shim. Shims of differing thickness are used to bring the layshaft endfloat within specification during a gearbox rebuild. Measure the actual endfloat first, then select the thickness that meets the gearbox specification.
Where does this shim sit in the gearbox?
This shim sits on the layshaft (countershaft) inside the gearbox casing, setting the shaft's endfloat against the casing. Correct endfloat keeps the layshaft gears aligned with the mainshaft and input gears so the box runs quietly and without bearing play.
