Wired between the dynamo and the battery, it regulates the dynamo output to hold the charging voltage steady and prevent overcharging as engine speed and electrical load vary. The three-coil (3-bobbin) RB340 design combines a voltage regulator, a current regulator and a cut-out relay in one housing: the regulators control the dynamo field to limit output, while the cut-out disconnects the dynamo from the battery at low speed to stop the battery discharging back through it.
