Switch A door-pillar contact switch for the interior courtesy lamp circuit.

The spring-loaded plunger is held depressed when the door is closed and releases as the door opens, completing the circuit to illuminate the interior courtesy lamp; the same contact provides the door-open signal used by the alarm system. It fits into the door pillar and is renewed when the courtesy lamp no longer responds to the door.

Frequently asked questions

What does the AFU4241LG switch do?
The AFU4241LG is a door-pillar contact switch for the interior courtesy lamp circuit. Its spring-loaded plunger is held in when the door is shut and releases as the door opens, completing the circuit to light the interior lamp. The same contact usually provides the door-open signal used by the alarm.
How do I know the AFU4241LG switch has failed?
A failed door-pillar switch typically shows as the interior courtesy lamp staying off when the door opens, or staying on when the door is shut. A sticking or corroded plunger can also confuse the alarm's door-open signal. Cleaning rarely lasts, so the switch is usually renewed.
Is the AFU4241LG switch easy to fit?
Fitting the AFU4241LG is usually straightforward. The switch screws or clips into the door pillar and connects to the courtesy lamp wiring behind it. It's typically a DIY job with basic hand tools, though the wiring can sit deep in the pillar, so feeding the connector back in is the fiddly part.
